Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a mild-temperate to humid subtropical species found on base-rich substrata, in clearings of ancient forests, sometimes on epiphytic bryophytes, with a few scattered records from the Alps.
