Lichenised.
Substrate: calciferous rocks, intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists), calciferous soil
Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)
Note: a holarctic species with a wide latitudinal range, found on horizontal to weakly inclined surfaces of calcareous to basic siliceous substrata, including bricks and roofing tiles in urban areas, often starting the life-cycle on other crustose lichens; the species has a wide altitudinal range, but seems to be most common at relatively low elevations; widespread throughout the Alps.
