Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with brown to blackish apothecia and acicular ascospores; the purple-reddish epihymenium reacting K+ violet and the reddish exciple reacting K+ purple are diagnostic to separate it from B. laurocerasi; on acid bark in boreal to temperate-montane forests; in the study area there are only a few scattered records from the Eastern Alps (Austria, Slovenia).
