Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species differing from the more common B. monasteriense in the exciple lacking attached thallus granules, and the paraphyses without enlarged tips; on bark in Xanthorion-communities; distribution insufficiently known, but apparently rare in the Alps.
