Substrate: acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), living mosses, plant debris
Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: a cool-temperate to arctic-alpine, circumpolar lichen found on soil in open situations, such as in dry tundra-like habitats, more rarely on wood; widespread throughout the Alps.
