Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)

Note: a species with an almost immersed to rimose-areolate and then pale grey to tan thallus with discrete punctiform soralia, without chemical substances, often sterile; apothecia entirely ochraceous to pale brown, with simple to 1-septate ascospores; on bark of deciduous trees in different forest types; widespread in the Northern Hemisphere and also in the Alps, but not common; sterile material, however, may not always have been identified correctly.
