Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with a whitish, abundantly sorediate thallus, biatorine apothecia (occasionally present) with yellowish discs, and conspicuous black pycnidia (always present); the difference from C. haematommatis is in need of reevaluation; on bark of conifers in old-growth forests; widespread in the Holarctic region; in the Alps so far only a few records along the northern rim.
