Substrate: living mosses, siliceous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species of the C. coccifera-group, better known under its synonym C. metacorallifera, with dark green podetia covered by minute squamules, and narrow scyphi; mostly on siliceous substrata in places with little snow in winter; widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, with a few records from the Eastern Alps, somewhat below treeline.
