Lichenised. Poorly known taxon.
Substrate: calciferous rocks
Altitudinal distribution: submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus)
Note: similar to P. schaereri, but with a more even and distinctly areolate thallus, and innate, red-brown apothecia; on calcareous rocks, perhaps a lowland species in areas with a moderately continental climate; overall distribution poorly known; in the study area it was recorded only from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
