Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with a thallus recalling that of Phlyctis argena, with roundish, black, oligolocular stromata and fissitunicate asci containing muriform ascospores with several longitudinal septa; taxonomic status and placement are in need of re-evaluation; there are only few records from Europe, including those from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
