Substrate: bark, calciferous rocks

Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)

Note: a rare species resembling G. truncigena, but with longer, fusiform ascospores (26-30 × 6-7 μm), with mostly 9-11 transversal septa and 1 incomplete longitudinal septum; the type was on calcareous rocks in a humid-shaded site near the coast of Liguria, but the typical substrate seems to be bark; records from Austria need critical re-evaluation.
