Substrate: bark, lignum

Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)

Note: a mainly cool-temperate early coloniser found on the smooth bark of young trunks and branches (mainly of Fagus and Betula) which, however, is able to persist on ancient trees, with optimum in beech forests; widespread and locally common throughout the Alps.
