Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a rare species of siliceous rocks, in moist and often shaded situations such as near waterfalls, rapids, gorges and lakeshores, often associated with cyanobacteria (Stigonema).
