Substrate: living mosses, plant debris, acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), calciferous soil, bark
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: an arctic-alpine to boreal-montane, circumpolar lichen found on mosses, plant debris, and organic soil in open habitats, with optimum near and above treeline.
