Substrate: lignum, bark

Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)

Note: a probably circumboreal-montane species of the L. saligna-group, better known under its synonym L. piniperda, with often densely crowded apothecia that are usually less than 0.5 mm in diam., found on hard lignum and acid bark, usually in upland areas, with a mainly western distribution in Europe; widespread throughout the Alps.
