Substrate: , intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists)

Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)

Note: a probably circumpolar, arctic-alpine, silicicolous species which was largely overlooked in the past, starting the life-cycle on yellow Rhizocarpon-species, but also on Aspicilia-, Lecanora- and Lecidea-species; certainly more widespread near and above treeline in the Alps; perhaps confused with Protoparmelia leproloma, from which it differs in important morphological and chemical characters.
