Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: a widespread and locally common lichen which often starts the life-cycle on Tephromela atra, with a wide altitudinal range; in the Alps it is usually silicicolous, but in the Mediterranean mountains calcicolous forms are frequent.
