Substrate: calciferous rocks, intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists)
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a so far undescribed taxon recalling M. dispersa, but apothecia with reddish-brown discs often partly covered by a coarse pruina; on schists, volcanic rocks and limestone and similar anthropogenic substrates at low elevations; so far only known from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
