Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a mainly boreal-montane lichen found on lignum and acid bark in upland areas; it belongs to a poorly known group and is widespread in Scandinavia, being also known from the British Isles, France, Central Europe, and the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula; perhaps more widespread in the Alps.
