Substrate: living mosses

Altitudinal range: from the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron) to the alpine belt (potential vegetation: treeless Alpine grasslands and tundras, to the lower limit of perennial snow and the equilibrium line of glaciers)

Note: a species of unclear generic placement, with a grey, granular to verrucose thallus, densely crowded, marginate apothecia with a yellow-brownish to blackish-brown discs (not reacting with K), unpigmented in longitudinal section apart from the brown epihymenium, 8-spored asci, and ellipsoid, 1-septate, hyaline ascospores (18-22 × 6-8 μm); encrusting bryophytes over calcareous rocks; only known from low-alpine localities in the Western Alps (Switzerland).
