Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a constantly cryptothalline species with a red-violet hymenium, found on exposed, steeply inclined faces of non-calcareous, mineral-rich rocks in lichen-poor communities of dry-warm sites in the lower altitudinal belts, records from high elevations being unlikely; widespread in the Alps.
