Peltigera aphthosa (L.) Willd.

Syn.: Lichen aphthosus L., Peltidea aphthosa (L.) Ach.

Lichenised.

Substrate: acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), calciferous soil, living mosses

Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)

Note: a mainly boreal-montane, circumpolar acidophytic vicariant of P. leucophlebia, found on terricolous mosses and soil rich in humus, mostly in forests, but also above treeline; it was not always distinguished from P. leucophlebia in the older literature; widespread throughout the Alps.
