Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a widespread, Mediterranean-Atlantic to southern boreal lichen found on bark in humid situations, from the mountains to the Mediterranean belt; the species is chemically and morphologically very polymorphic; widespread and locally common throughout the Alps, with optimum in the montane belt.
