Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: an arctic-alpine species with a grey thallus (all spot tests negative), with papillate to columnar isidia, occasionally bearing Lecanora-like apothecia with sunken dark discs often covered by a grey pruina, and with single-spored asci; encrusting plant debris and terricolous bryophytes at high elevations; in the Alps it is apparently very rare.
