Substrate: siliceous rocks

Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)

Note: a melaspileoid species with an indistinct thallus and black, somewhat elongated ascomata, peculiar in Arthonia by the carbonised exciple; on shaded siliceous rocks, with optimum in the montane belt; widespread in Europe but not common, with several records from the Eastern Alps only (Austria).
