Hypotrachyna afrorevoluta (Krog & Swinscow) Krog & Swinscow

Syn.: Parmelia afrorevoluta Krog & Swinscow, Parmelinopsis afrorevoluta (Krog & Swinscow) Elix & Hale
Lichenised.
Substrate: bark
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species differing from H. revoluta in having lobes with a glossy lower surface, often simple, glossy rhizines, and coarse soredia developing from pustules, based on a type from Eastern Africa. It grows on bark of broad-leaved trees in areas with a more or less oceanic climate; widespread in both Hemispheres, and perhaps spreading in Europe in recent years. The species is very similar to H. revoluta, and some records of the latter could refer to it; widespread also in the Alps, especially on the northern side.
