Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species with an irregularly fruticose thallus bearing cylindrical, pruinose lobes, terminal apothecia lacking a proper exciple, and prototunicate asci containing rather thick-walled ascospores; on steep faces of calcareous rocks; known with certainty only from the type locality in the Western Alps (France), other records need confirmation.
