Altitudinal distribution: submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus)
Note: a species resembling Ph. biziana, but thalli larger, with thicker, slightly pruinose lobes, lacking lobules in the centre, and underside with yellowish areas; widespread and fairly common on bark of roadside trees in the eastern part of Central Europe and in inland localities of the Balkan Peninsula, with a few records from the eastern foothills of the Eastern Alps.
