Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species recalling I. squamulosum, but with a basally closed, entire involucrellum, smaller perithecia and smaller ascospores; on bryophytes overgrowing boulders of limestone; only known from the type locality in the Eastern Alps.
