Substrate: acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), bark, lignum
Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species with relatively conspicuous, conical to globose ascomata, unbranched paraphyses, and oblong, often pseudoseptate ascospores (to 13 µm long); on soil, rotting wood or stones; widespread in the Holarctic region, from the boreal to the temperate zone, but rare; from the Alps there are a few scattered records, but perhaps the species was largely overlooked.
