Note: a species with a green-brown to brown-black, cracked thallus provided with abundant black ridges, flat-topped, crenate perithecia, and narrowly ellipsoid ascospores (l/w ratio ≥ 2.5); on both siliceous and calcareous seashore rocks; common and widespread along the coasts of the northern Atlantic Ocean, rare in the Mediterranean region, with a few records from the base of the Western Alps (France, Italy).
