Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species developing small thalli consisting of minute, glossy, yellowish-brown areoles with a non-amyloid medulla lacking lichen compounds, non-pruinose apothecia with a thin margin, hymenium less than 40 µm high, and minute ascospores; on low siliceous outcrops and pebbles at low elevations; widespread in Europe but rarely collected, with a single record from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
