Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a species of the L. neglecta-group with a whitish-grey granular thallus similar to that of L. borealis, both with atranorin but with different fatty acids; overgrowing mosses mostly on siliceous boulders, rarely in shaded fissures; not common at high elevations in the European orobiomes, with a few records from the Eastern Alps (Austria).
