Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a rare species with a thick whitish thallus, large, black, finally convex, virtually immarginate apothecia, and c. 10 µm long ascospores, based on a type from Dovrefjell in Southern Norway; on soil in upland areas; distribution in the Alps poorly documented.
