Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: this name is used here for sorediate morphs of an Ochrolechia with swollen areoles and a secondary chemistry identical to that of O. frigida (gyrophoric acid syndrome); O. inaequatula s.str. is based on a type from western Alaska; encrusting plant debris and bryophytes, mostly over calcareous to intermediate soils; common in the Alps, but subsumed under O. frigida in some countries (e.g. in Italy).
