Substrate: calciferous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a calcicolous species with a thallus forming dark grey patches of c. 2 cm in diam., consisting of small warts and granules (to 0.1 mm in diam.), convex ascomata mostly immersed in the thallus (to 0.3 mm in diam.), a spreading involucrellum, and ellipsoid ascospores (to 20 µm long); known from a few low elevation sites in the Eastern Alps (Austria).
