Verrucaria mimicrans Servít
Lichenised. Poorly known taxon.
Substrate: calciferous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: described from former Yugoslavia, differing from V. muralis in the larger spores, the longer periphyses, and the form of the involucrellum; the total distribution covers wide parts of Europe and the species is also known from North America. It is a pioneer species on more or less calcareous substrata, especially on pebbles and on recently exposed rock surfaces; from the Alps there are a few scattered records only.
