Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: on rather shaded and moist surfaces of calciferous rocks, this species is similar to V. memnonia, differing in the larger spores and the pale excipulum.
