Substrate: calciferous rocks, siliceous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: mostly on calciferous or base-rich siliceous substrata, including roofing tiles, walls and mortar; a taxon of the V. nigrescens-complex, reported from different countries in Central and Southern Europe; apparently most frequent in the Southern and Western Alps, but perhaps not recognised elsewhere.
