Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling V. ulmi, but perithecia with an entire involucrellum, and ascospores smaller (only somewhat exceeding 20 µm in length); on bark Fagus in a humid mixed forest, so far only known from the type locality in the Eastern Alps (Austria).
