Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: this species is known only from two widely separated collections from Romania and Switzerland (a record from Bavaria is dubious), but was perhaps overlooked elsewhere. It is very similar to Th. aethioboloides and molecular data are needed in order to clarify whether they are two genetically distinct species.
