Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus)

Note: on horizontal to gently sloping faces near the ground in open habitats, especially in grasslands, sometimes starting the life-cycle on other crustose lichens; restricted to dry-continental areas, both in the Alps and in the Mediterranean Region.
