Altitudinal distribution: montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a species resembling B. implexa in the pendent, cespitose, brown thalli, but branches with fissural soralia and distinctly blackened apices and thallus K+ yellow soon turning to red; in montane forests, only recorded from the Eastern Alps (Italy).
