Altitudinal distribution: subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a rare species recalling Polycauliona candelaria but of so far unresolved relationships, forming small thalli consisting of narrow, finally ascending, blastidiate lobes; on vertical faces of rocks containing some calcium; reported from the mountains of Europe, including the Swiss Alps, at high elevations, and from South America.
