Substrate: calciferous rocks, intermediate rocks (such as calciferous schists), siliceous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)
Note: known from Europe and North America, this lichen occurs in the Alps on weakly calciferous rocks, especially calcareous schists, mostly near or above treeline. The species is chemically variable (see e.g. Roux et coll. 2014); widespread in the Alps, wherever suitable substrata are present.
