Substrate: bark, living mosses, siliceous rocks
Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the subalpine belt (potential vegetation: open, taiga-like forests dominated by Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra and Rhododendron)
Note: a mild-temperate to humid subtropical lichen found on bark of broad-leaved trees, more rarely on rock or silicicolous mosses, often on dry undersides of thick branches of ancient trees; widespread in the Alps, but not very common.
