Lichenised.

Substrate: acidic soil (mostly on siliceous substrata), siliceous rocks

Altitudinal range: from the submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus) to the nival belt (above the lower limit of perennial snow and glaciers)

Note: a mainly boreal-montane, perhaps circumpolar lichen found on soils high in clay and on weathered siliceous rocks; widespread in the Alps, but generally not common.
