Altitudinal distribution: submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus)
Note: a species resembling S. taylorii, from which it differs only in the shorter macroconidia (to c. 12 µm long), which however are not always present; on bark of broad-leaved trees in closed forests; known from the lowlands of Western Europe and the laurel-forest belt in Macaronesia, with a few records from the Western Alps (France).
