Altitudinal range: from the mesomediterranean belt (potential vegetation: evergreen broad-leaved forests dominated by Quercus ilex) to the montane belt (potential vegetation: deciduous forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica and closed coniferous forests with Picea abies)
Note: a probably incompletely holarctic species of continental areas found on soil and weathered calciferous rocks, often in association with cyanobacteria or cyanobacterial lichens when young, mostly at relatively low elevations, with a few records from the Southern and Western Alps (France, Italy).
