Altitudinal distribution: submediterranean/colline belt (potential vegetation: mixed deciduous forests dominated by Quercus and Carpinus)
Note: a western species, never found fertile, growing on the dry sides of trunks of old deciduous oaks in sheltered situations, which most probably does not belong to Schismatomma s.str.; in the study area so far known only from the base of the Western Alps (France).
